The Chairman of the ASEAN Standing Committee invited the PRC as Guest at the 25th AMM held in Manila in 1992. On this occasion, the Chinese Foreign Minister proposed to establish programmes for cooperation in science and technology, trade and economic relations with ASEAN. ASEAN has decided to send a delegation to Beijing to be headed by the ASEAN Secretary-General to explore the Chinese proposals and other possible areas of cooperation.
