At the Post Ministerial Conference 6+1 Session held with Japan, the Foreign Minister of Japan announced that Japan's GSP, which expired in March 1991, was extended for another 10 years up to 21 March 2001. He also stated that ASEAN countries should avail more of the GSP benefits and workshops on Japan's GSP should be conducted to inform the private sector of the GSP. Toward this end, the 5th ASEAN Workshop on the Japanese GSP was held in Bangkok in August 1991.

The Agreement establishing the ASEAN Promotion Centre on Trade, Investment and Tourism (APC) was likewise extended for another 5 years from 25 May 1992. The APC, serves as ASEAN's arm in Tokyo to promote trade, investment and tourism between ASEAN countries and Japan.

The ASEAN-Japan Development Fund (AJDF) which provides funds in terms of loans and direct investments to joint ventures established between ASEAN and Japanese business people, had also been extended. The fund has been extended for another year from 8 July 1991.

As a follow-up of the 12th ASEAN-Japan Forum, Japan had sent a contact mission to ASEAN member countries in October 1991 With the objective of enhancing cooperative efforts in the implementation of the various projects under ASEAN-Japan Development Cooperation as well as to explain Japan's Grand Aid Scheme to ASEAN member countries.

In the field of cultural cooperation, ASEAN and Japan agreed to further strengthen the existing cooperation by having series of cultural events in 1992 with a view to raising Japanese interest in the region on the occasion of the 25th founding anniversary of ASEAN.
