Strengthening the ASEAN Secretariat through Auspicious Eid al-Fitr Gathering

"If the ASEAN Summit is the brain, then the Secretariat is its heart," H.E. Mr Bagas Hapsoro, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Community & Corporate Affairs Department quoted the words from H.E. Dr Surin Pitsuwan, Secretary-General of ASEAN. To strengthen the Secretariat internally, the Community & Corporate Affairs Department of the ASEAN Secretariat organised an Eid al-Fitr Gathering today at the Top Lounge Room, ASEAN Secretariat. H.E. Dr. Lim Hong Hin, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for ASEAN Economic Community, other officers, and staff members were among participants of the gathering themed “Joy of Giving and Receiving.”

“On behalf of the Secretary-General of ASEAN, all the Deputy Secretaries-General, Heads of Directorate, Heads of Divisions and Units, I would like to convey Selamat Hari Raya Idul Fitri 1433 Hijriah,” DSG Bagas said. “Best wishes to you and all your loved ones, and have a safe and pleasant journey if you are travelling,” DSG Bagas added.

Approximately 5.5 million people in and around Jakarta will leave the city and join the massive exodus heading to their respective hometowns. DSG Bagas warned those who will be leaving the city to be very cautious, “Traffic hardship and ordeal are not obstacles for millions of people who want to share the celebration of Eid al-Fitr—locally known as Lebaran—in their respective hometowns with their loved ones. Be cautious and drive safely!”
