Protocol Amending the Agreement on the Establishment of the ASEAN Secretariat (Economic Officers)
Bangkok, 27 January 1983



The Governments of the Republic of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore and the Kingdom of Thailand.

DESIRING to amend the Agreement on the Establishment of the ASEAN Secretariat in order to enable appointments of additional staff to the Secretariat;

HAVE AGREED AS FOLLOWS:

    ARTICLE 1

  • Paragraph 1 of Article IV of the Agreement shall be replaced by the following:

    "The Staff for the Secretariat shall comprise;

      (i) three Bureau Directors;

      (ii) a Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Officer;

      (iii) an Administrative officer;

      (iv) a Public Information officer;

      (v) an Assistant to the Secretary-General; and

      (vi) such other officers as the Standing Committee may deem necessary.


    Appointment to any of the above positions shall be made by the Standing Committee upon nomination by Contracting Parties."


    ARTICLE 2

  • Article VII of the Agreement shall be amended to read as follows:

    ARTICLE 7
    Salaries

  • The salaries and allowances of the Secretary General, three bureau Directors the Foreign Trade and Economic Relations Officer the Administrative Officer the Public Information Officer, the Assistant to the Secretary General and such other staff appointed by the Standing Committee shall be determined by the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting which may, from time to time on the recommendation of the Secretary-General review such salaries and allowances.


    ARTICLE 3

  • This protocol shall enter into force on the date of signature.


    IN WITNESS WHEREOF the undersigned, being duly authorized there to by their respective Governments, have signed this Protocol.


    DONE at Bangkok in five originals in the English Language this Twenty-Seventh day of January one thousand nine hundred and eighty three.
