Indonesia Quality  and National Convention of Standardization

 

Indonesia Quality and National Convention of Standardization is an annual national event of standardization in Indonesia.  It covers various activities such as consultancy, information exchange, promotion and scientific meeting on standards and quality assurance.  A broad spectrum of standardization stakeholders participates in this event including producers (industrialists), consumers, experts, and government officials.
The President of Republic of Indonesia, Her Excellency Megawati Soekarnoputri, had the honour of opening officially the Indonesia Quality and National Convention of Standardization 2002. In her remarks, the President emphasized the importance role of  standards and conformity assessment in the global market.
With the theme of “Empowering National Competitiveness”, the main event was held at Jakarta Convention Center, 30 September – 3 October 2002.

The objectives of the event are :
1. to prepare Indonesian readiness on AFTA 2003 implementation in the field of standards and conformity assessment
2. to enhance promotion of standards to consumers and academic
3. to promote information on quality products and services supported by certification
4. to enhance the role of national standards and conformity assessment
5. to enhance commitment of government officials on the maintenance of standards and quality assurance

To achieve these objectives, the Indonesia Quality and National Convention 2002 was designed to comprise the following programs :
• The National Quality Products and Services Show (Indonesia Quality 2002)
This exhibition was opened for public on 30 September – 3 October 2002 at Jakarta Convention Center.  The exhibition was participated by 34 companies/industries that already implement SNI or other international standards. The occasion was also supported by ISO, IEC, ACCSQ, CAC, industrial association, KADIN Indonesia (The Indonesian Chambers of  Commerce and Industry), and YLKI (Indonesian Consumers Organization).  Mr. Dennis Chew, Officer in Charge of IEC Asia-Pacific Regional Centre, also took part in the exhibition to promote the application of IEC standards.

• Convention/National Seminar on Standardization
This convention was held as a two-way communication forum to build better perception on standardization.  One of the aims of this event was to gain recommendation on solving problems in developing and applying national standardization system.  The convention was held at Jakarta Convention Center, 30 September – 1 October 2002, and officially opened by Mr. Hatta Radjasa, Minister of Research and Technology.  Approximately  400 participants and 20 speakers, Mr. Pierre de RUVO, IECEE Executive Secretary, took part in the convention.  The papers reflect the emphasis on Standards and Technical Barrier to Trade; Standards and Consumers Protection; Standardization and Indonesian Territory Development; Standards, International Cooperation, MRA/MLAs and Global Trade; Risk Management, Management System; and Electrotechnical Products Safety.

• Promotion of Standardization
This promotion was held on 26 cities in Indonesia, starting from February until December 2002, especially in the easthern part of Indonesia. These activities were to increase the awareness and understanding of standardization in trade and involved active participation of stakeholders in each region.  The whole events of Indonesia Quality and National Convention of Standardization also intended as promotion of standardization in Indonesia.

• Trainings on Standardization
Trainings on standardization were held to improve standardization knowledge and skills.  The program was held on August – October 2002, in Jakarta.  The trainings were : Introduction and Documentation (ISO 9001 : 2000 and ISO 14001), Internal Audit (ISO 9001 : 2000, ISO 14000 and ISO 17025), TQM for Manager and Technical Staff, and Auditor/Assessor. The trainings were attended by stakeholders of standardization from all around Indonesia.

• Scientific Meeting on Standardization
This meeting took place on 2 – 3 October 2002 at Manggala Wanabakti Building, Jakarta and had the aim of enhancing research and development on standardization.  The meeting was attended by approximately 125 stakeholders representatives.

• Quality Appreciation
This event was held on 27 September 2002 at Hilton Hotel, Jakarta.  The purpose of this event mainly was for stakeholders to share their experience and to give appreciation to companies on their effort in standardization field.  In this event, 50 certificates of accreditation/certification were awarded to producers/industries.
