Singapore Elected to World Standards Body

Singapore, represented by Mr Lee Suan Hiang, Chief Executive, SPRING Singapore, was elected to the ISO Council on 27 September 2002, at the ISO General Assembly in Stockholm. The Council is the highest policy-making instrument for the international standards organisation, and decides on the policy directions and budget for the ISO."Being a member of the ISO Council puts Singapore in a position to impact the strategic direction of ISO standardisation programmes," said Mr Lee Suan Hiang. "This means that we will have an active voice in lobbying for international standards to ensure that they do not hinder trade or market access for Singapore's exports", he added. To support Singapore's promotion of free trade, SPRING Singapore as the national standards body, participates actively in the development of international standards and standardisation to ensure that Singapore standards are aligned to international standards and goods and services enjoy free access to  overseas markets.
