The Third Workshop and Seminar of “The Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade”

The third  Workshop and Seminar of “The Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade” (a joint project of BSN  and The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)) was held on 28 – 30 January 2003 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The workshop and seminar was opened by Mr. Hidekazu Tanaka (Team Leader, TA Consultant Team) and Mr. Iman Sudarwo (Director General, BSN). The topics of the 3 ^rd workshop and seminar are: The Importance of the Participation of Private Sectors in Standard Setting Activities, Implementation of the TBT Agreement in Indonesia, Current Situation of the Indonesian Technical Regulation and their Harmonization with International Standards, and Importance of Continuous Capacity Building.

Six speakers  took part in this seminar. They were Dr. Kenhachi Mitsuhashi (President of National Committee of TC/TC 45), Mr. Takehito Sato (Japan Electrical Manufacturer’s Association), Mr. Takayoshi Yagi (Japan Iron an Steel Federation), Mr. Tengku Abdul Rachman Hanafiah (BSN), Dr. Azrar Hadi (University of Indonesia), and Mr. Masaki Oda (TA Assistant).  

Approximately 100 participants attended the seminar. They are representatives of associations of industries and government institutions.

J-Net Seminar on Total Quality Management (TQM)

A J-Net Seminar on Total Quality Management (a joint project of BSN, Asian Productivity Organization (APO) and The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)) was held on 18 – 20 February 2003 in Jakarta. The project will be implemented at J-Net Centers in Tokyo, Jakarta, Kuala Lumpur and Manila.

The objectives of the seminar are to develop and strengthen good quality practices of an organization and to share experience in launching and implementing a Total Quality Management (TQM) improvement program with focus on 5S. Mr. Tadahiko Taguchi (Furukawa Techno Research, Inc, Tokyo) was the instructor for the seminar. 90% of the participants came from private companies and 10% are from the Government Sectors (BSN and Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration).
