The San Miguel Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates Oktoberfest, the traditional Bavarian harvest festival, at The Podium at 9pm this Saturday, October 4.
The popular Oktoberfest has its ancient origins in southern Germany and is now associated with beer festivals around the globe. SMPO and conductor Arnel Feliciano join the worldwide merry-making with waltzes, polkas and marches by Strauss and other German composers.
Aside from its traditional Western repertoire, the SMPO is also prepared to offer mall goers its exclusive arrangements of current chartbusters.
Oktoberfest is part of “The San Miguel Music Festival at The Podium,” two weekends of free mall concerts that offer a variety of orchestral and choral music ranging from classical and folk to contemporary and popular tunes.
Aside from the SMPO, the festival also features The San Miguel Master Chorale. The SMPO and the SMMC will be heard at 5pm on October 5 in the festival finale, “The Songs of Ryan Cayabyab” with the composer himself wielding the baton. Shoppers of The Podium will be treated to new orchestral and choral arrangements of the songs of Ryan Cayabyab and other composers.
The SMPO and SMMC, established in 2001 by The San Miguel Foundation for the Performing Arts, count among its ranks some of today’s best musicians, singers, musical arrangers and young conductors. The orchestra and choir have also recorded “The Sacred Works of Ryan Cayabyab,” an exclusive double-CD album that will be available at The Podium during the festival concerts.
“The San Miguel Music Festival at The Podium” is presented by the SMFPA and The Podium. All concerts will be held at the second floor activity center of the mall. The Podium is located at 18 ADB Avenue, Ortigas Center, Mandaluyong City.
