FACTSHEET
Periodic Review
Overview
Under the umbrella of the Tripartite Core Group (TCG), ASEAN with support from the United Nations and the Government of the Union of Myanmar has been mandated to undertake further periodic reviews in the Cyclone Nargis affected areas. It will document the progress made towards meeting needs over a 12–month period with assessments taking place at least twice during that period.
The Periodic Review will build on the Village Track Assessment (VTA), one of the methodologies used in the Post Nargis Joint Assessment (PONJA), using multiple indicators and covering the Delta region at the community level. It will use a representative sample of the Cyclone Nargis affected areas and inform the international community of the situation in the Delta.
Objectives
- To identify humanitarian needs and early recovery requirements through the timely monitoring of community-focused indicators
- To monitor the progress of households and community recovery using information from the monitoring indicators
- To guide strategic decision making amongst all relevant stakeholders using the generated data
Expected Outcomes
The Periodic Review is envisaged to complement the existing systems and produce a holistic overview of community development across the affected area. It would be a pertinent source of information to identify priority areas for resource allocation and long-term recovery programming, as well as guide a possible dialogue at the policy level.
The Coordinating Office of the ASEAN Humanitarian Task Force will continue to provide the momentum and opportunities for coordination amongst TCG members, with the Government and other actors.
Source of Funding
This initiative is projected to have an indicative budget of 2,484,075 USD. It allows multi-donor and technical agency resource contributions such as equipment and seconded technical staff.
