South Pacific Forum Secretariat

The Second Meeting of the 26th ASEAN Standing Committee held at Jakarta in January 1993 agreed to establish in relations with the South Pacific Forum at the Secretariat-to-Secretariat level. The decision was made following the visit by the Secretary-General of the South Pacific Forum to the ASEAN Secretariat in 1992. A follow- up meeting between the Secretary-General of ASEAN and the Secretary-General of the Forum Secretariat was held in Jakarta on 31 May 1994. At this meeting, an agreement was reached to further consolidate the ties between the two Secretariats through regular exchange of visits of their professional staff and the exchange of research and information material.

On the request of the Forum Secretariat to observe some technical committee meetings and projects of ASEAN, the Fourth Meeting of the 27th ASEAN Standing Committee held in Jakarta in June 1994 agreed to the request of the South Pacific Forum Secretariat for its representatives to attend the meetings of the ASEAN Senior Officials on Environment and the ASEAN Senior Officials on Drug Matters subject to the approval of the Committees concerned.
