ASEAN-Pakistan

Pakistan was accorded sectoral dialogue status by the 26th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting held in Singapore in July 1993. Efforts are being made to formulate an appropriate modality to operationalize ASEAN-Pakistan sectoral dialogue relations. Pakistan has proposed to develop cooperative activities in the areas of trade, investment, industry and environment. In considering the Pakistan proposals, the Third Meeting of the 27th ASEAN Standing Committee held in Jakarta in April 1994 requested the ASEAN Secretariat to seek the views of the relevant ASEAN bodies on the areas of advantage that could accrue from cooperation with Pakistan. The forthcoming visit of the Secretary-General of ASEAN to Pakistan will afford the two sides an opportunity for further discussions on the various proposals by Pakistan.
