ASEAN Cooperation in Drugs and Narcotics Control continued unabated during the year under review with several activities conducted.

The Fifth ASEAN Narcotics Law Enforcement Training Course was conducted from 5 - 16 November 1984 in Bangkok. Thirty mid-management level narcotics law enforcement officers attended the course.

The ASEAN Study on the Use of Preventive Detention Law in Malaysia and Singapore Project was implemented from 10 - 15 December 1984 aimed at providing the opportunity for the Study Group from Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand to study in-depth such legislation and procedures as well as their implications and ramifications of enacting such laws in their respective countries.

From 11 - 14 March 1985 the ASEAN Workshop on Drug Law Enforcement was held in Bangkok, The highlights of the Workshop were the formulation of standard procedures to streamline the exchange of information among member countries.

The ASEAN Feasibility Study on the Use c)f Compulsory Treatment and Rehabilitation System in Singapore and Malaysia was conducted from 13. 22 May 1985. This was meant to expose the participants from Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand to the existing practices in Singapore and Malaysia so that they could adopt the necessary modifications when considering the system in their respective countries.

At the Eighth ASEAN Drug Experts Meeting, 2 - 4 April 1984 in Jakarta, it was agreed that ASEAN member countries hold the ASEAN Drug Prevention Campaign Week in November 1985. Furthermore, the Meeting proposed a project entitled "ASEAN Drug Prevention Film for Campaign 1986" which was eventually approved by the Fifth ASEAN Standing Committee in May 1984 in Jakarta. Australia agreed to support fully the implementation of this project with a budgetary requirement of A$ 67,650.
