ASEAN
CULTURE WEEK 2004:
“ASEAN
ARTS – TRADITION AND MODERNITY” |
ASEAN Culture Week is one of ASEAN Committee on Culture and
Information’s flagship projects. The ASEAN Culture Week this year
would be held in Ha Noi and Ha Long in Viet Nam from 6 to 13 August
2004 with the theme, “ASEAN Arts – Tradition and Modernity”. The
ASEAN Culture Week 2004 comes after the maiden event set on the
grounds of the Angkor Wat complex in Siem Reap, Cambodia in October
2002.
This event is a major arts and cultural immersion festivities
presenting dance performances by professional dance troupes from
ASEAN member countries. Other activities will include a creative
camp for on-the-spot painting by visual artists from the region, an
exhibition of art works that includes national costumes and crafts.
Moreover, a wide array of popular food showcasing ASEAN cuisine will
add variety to the event. More than 150 artists from ASEAN member
countries will be participating in the event.
The ASEAN Culture Week is part of ASEAN’s commitment and efforts to
promote the region’s immensely diverse arts and culture traditions
for greater awareness, understanding and appreciation of ASEAN among
its peoples. It will also contribute to fostering a sense of
regional identity and mutual friendship as well as improving ASEAN
image within and outside ASEAN.
