Nanning, China, 28-31 October 2007
Leading companies in the areas of logistics and
ports from China and the ASEAN countries will showcase their latest
technologies at 4th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) that will be held at
the Nanning International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Nanning,
China, from 28-31 October 2007.
According to the CAEXPO Secretariat, a total of
3,000 booths so far have confirmed their participation, of which
1,133 booths are from the ASEAN countries.
Initiated by the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in
2004, the CAEXPO is considered one of the four major expos in China.
It aims to deepen the strategic partnership between ASEAN and China
as well as promote stronger economic ties, investment and
people-to-people relations.
While logistics and ports will be the focus of
this year’s event, visitors will also get to see a wide variety of
products ranging from traditional handicrafts to machinery presented
at the Exhibition Centre. The exposition consists of four pavilions
-- Commodity Trade, Investment & Cooperation, Agriculture Advanced &
Applicable Technology and Cities of Charm. In line with this year’s
theme, each ASEAN country and China will showcase a port city at the
Cities of Charm Pavilion. China will be featuring Tianjin City while
Cambodia will promote Sihanoukville deep-sea port.
In addition, major events to be held alongside
the 4th CAEXPO include the China-ASEAN Business & Investment Summit
(CABIS) and the China-ASEAN Port Development & Cooperation Forum, as
well as the ASEAN-China Ministerial Meeting on Food Quarantine.
Statistics from the 3rd CAEXPO recorded USD 1.27
billion worth of trade deals, a 10.2 per cent increase from the 2nd
CAEXPO.
China is currently ASEAN’s fourth largest trading
partner, with the trade volume in 2006 at approximately USD 140
billion.
