The ASEAN WILDLIFE ENFORCEMENT NETWORK invites ASEAN nationals to apply for the following vacancy

 

Senior Officer - ASEAN Wildlife Enforcement Network Programme Coordination Unit

 

The ASEAN Wildlife Enforcement Network is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the post of Senior Officer (SO) – ASEAN Wildlife Enforcement Network (ASEAN-WEN) Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) to be located in Bangkok, Thailand. The SO will work in law enforcement and conservation issues in close collaboration with the Department of National Parks Wildlife and Plant Conservation of Thailand and will report to the Natural Resources Unit of ASEAN Secretariat.  The SO will serve as a Desk Officer in close coordination with ASEAN Member States and relevant international organizations, in formulating and implementing programs and activities, mobilizing resources, servicing meetings, and providing expert advice to ASEAN Member States.  More specifically, the SO is responsible for:

  • Coordinating and facilitating technical support to ASEAN Member States and their respective national task forces in support of ASEAN-WEN and anti-wildlife trafficking activities (e.g. needs assessments, training courses, etc);

  • Providing support for the convening of ASEAN-WEN meetings, seminars, workshops, exchanges, and training programs;

  • Managing and updating the ASEAN-WEN website www.asean-wen.org;

  • Facilitating regional sharing and exchange of best practices and lessons learned;

  • Coordinating with ASEAN Secretariat, ASEAN Member States, international organizations and donor agencies to facilitate technical and financial support for further development of ASEAN-WEN; and

  • Supervising one full time Assistant Senior Officer and at least one Administrative Assistant.

 

The applicant should possess the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Masters degree in environmental management, biology, sciences, criminal justice, or other relevant fields from a reputable institution of higher learning;

  • Minimum five years experience in handling regional and global environmental, law enforcement and/or conservation issues;

  • Adequate knowledge of environmental, conservation and law enforcement issues in ASEAN, well versed in policy and strategic issues while possessing sufficient technical knowledge;

  • Ability to work independently and to provide advice and expert opinion to governments and senior officials on key emerging issues;

  • Good knowledge of and working level contacts with relevant institutions working in this area;

  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken;

  • Good diplomatic and negotiation skills;

  • Proficiency in computer and ICT skills;

  • Ability to multi-task and willing to perform outside the usual job scope;

  • Ability to travel frequently on assignment and to work long hours;

  • High level of motivation and ability to motivate team members to high levels of performance; and

  • Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.

Upon the successful completion of a 3-month probationary period, the successful candidate will be confirmed on a 1-year contract, inclusive of the probation.  The starting salary is US$ 3,000 per month.  Other benefits include allowances for relocation, reimbursement of medical expenses, end of contract gratuity, and annual performance bonus.
