Jinling Institute of Hotel Management (Nanjing Tourism School), in the reference of the education mode of the Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne(EHL), aims to cultivate all sorts of qualified professional human resources for China’s tourism hotels. Through several years’ construction, the institute has enjoyed a good reputation in China’s tourism industry for its integrated subjects system and the earliest practical professors of professional education in China. All the professors are titled with senior professional and technical certificates in the hotel industry as well as the teaching certificates, which exactly prove their abundances of both solid academic knowledge and professional experience and proficient skills. All the special teachers have compiled or written sorts of tourism textbooks for the national college students. Many of the teachers have been invited to judge the contests of skills required in the hotel industry or to draft the standards of the hotel industry for China National Tourism Administration, and quite a number of them have undertaken the research proposal on Chinese “Evaluation System for 5-star Hotel Operation & Management”.
The up-to-date curriculum of the institute is set up in complete accordance with the requirements of the National Education Ministry. The under mentioned concrete curriculum taught with the assistance of modern equipments covers almost every program of the specialties on hospitality and tourism management. The specialty of “Hotel Management” is so outstanding in China that the National Education Ministry has settled it as the national Model Educational Specialty in the industry. For the present, the number of students in the institute has added up to 2,000. Our students learn the theory of hotel management in the institute and will receive their practice training in Nanjing Jinling Hotel, Sheraton Nanjing Kingsley, Guanzhou White Swan Hotel etc., which are all well renowned in China. Every year, some excellent students have opportunities to go Singapore or Japan for further education. Most of the graduates have become senior managerial talent in the hotel industry. Jinling Institute of Hotel Management (Nanjing Tourism School) has educated approximate 20,000 qualified professionals. Therefore, it is highly reputed as “the Cradle of Chinese Hotel Industry”.
Jinling Institute of Hotel Management (Nanjing Tourism School) is a training base for the hotel industry designated by China National Tourism Administration and the Labor Ministry. The institute provides for the hotel industry various kinds of training: pre-position training, post-position training, e.g. the training for hotel supervisors, general managers, etc. As for the duration of training, it varies from short-term (1 to 3 months) to long-term (over one year). For all the trainings, the trainees could either come to the institute or attend lectures at their own units. Until 2003, the institute has trained 32,410 personnel of different ranks and positions for the hotel industry, including 1,957 general managers, 16,204 managers, 891 supervisors and shiftleaders, 1,001 new hands and 3,357 persons for their technical grades appraisal. Moreover, it has appraised professional skills for 14,860 persons as well. The number is at the top among similar institutes and schools nation-wide. And today our students are working at every corner of China (excluding Taiwan and Macao). In addition, the institute also provides advisory service for the hotel industry. Up to now, the Hotel Management Consultants Co. attached to the Institute has provided various advisory services for 78 hotels throughout the country.
