THE ASEAN SECRETARIAT IN JAKARTA INVITES ASEAN NATIONALS TO APPLY FOR THE FOLLOWING VACANCY

 

Head, Human Development Unit

 

The ASEAN Secretariat (ASEC) is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the post of Head, Human Development Unit (HDU) in the Bureau for Resources Development. He/she, under the direction of the Bureau Director shall manage and supervise the HDU which has several varied portfolios covering ASEAN cooperation in education, labour, rural development and poverty eradication, social welfare and development, women, youth and civil service matters. In addition, as Head of HDU, he/she will undertake special and ad hoc assignments in the broader socio-cultural arena, as directed by the Secretary-General of ASEAN.   

 

The applicant should possess the following qualifications:

  • An advanced degree or other equivalent qualifications in relevant fields of study.

  • A minimum of ten years working experience in dealing with social, economic, and human development issues, including the impact of globalization and regional economic integration.

  • Strong management and supervisory abilities.

  • Familiarity with multi-sectoral coordination, public policy, and project management processes.

  • Good research and presentation skills.

  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.

  • Good diplomatic and negotiation skills.

  • Computer literacy and proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools.

  •  Ability to multi-task and willingness to perform outside the usual job scope.

  •  Ability to travel frequently on assignment and to work long hours.

  •  Ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment.

  •  Ability to function effectively independently and as part of a team.

The successful candidate will be offered a post with six months probation and a monthly salary commensurate with his/her personal qualifications within the range of US$4,000 and US$5,000. Other benefits and allowances include housing, medical, education of dependent children, gratuity, and annual performance bonus. Upon completion of the probationary period, the candidate will be confirmed as an Assistant Director of the ASEC for a three-year contract, inclusive of the six-month probationary period, in the first instance.
