THE ASEAN SECRETARIAT IN JAKARTA INVITES ASEAN NATIONALS TO APPLY
FOR THE FOLLOWING VACANCIES
DEPUTY
SECRETARIES-GENERAL FOR ASEAN ECONOMIC COMMUNITY
AND
ADMINISTRATION AND SPECIAL AFFAIRS
Background:
The ASEAN
Charter signed by the ASEAN heads of Member States in Singapore on
20 November 2007 has provided new impetus to ASEAN’s efforts by
establishing legal and institutional framework required to achieve
the ASEAN Community by 2015. ASEAN Secretariat is positively
positioned to provide all the functions required to support the
Community-building process effectively. This includes a structure
that is aligned to the requirements of the Charter and their
respective Community Blueprints, namely: ASEAN Political and
Security Community (APSC), ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), ASEAN
Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) and Administration and Special
Affairs (ASA).
Presently, there
are vacancies for DSG ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) and DSG
Administration and Special Affairs (ASA) at the ASEAN Secretariat in
Jakarta.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The
DSGs will assist the ASEAN Secretary-General and will be responsible
for providing strategic direction and guidance for the
implementation of the respective Community portfolios and ensuring
clear prioritisation and alignment to overall policy objectives.
The DSGs
also represent ASEAN Secretariat at senior official meetings and
manage matters of strategic importance. Both DSGs will ensure that
ASEAN Secretariat has in place the systems, procedures and resources
required to fulfill its mandate.
These posts are
senior-level management positions where the person will have to
contribute to the collective leadership of ASEAN Secretariat and
exercise managerial responsibilities apart from possessing expert
knowledge in the required fields.
Requirements:

Advanced
degree in Economics, Business Management, International Business
and Finance, International Relations, Law, Public Policy, and/or
Public Administration.

A minimum of
15 years of working experience with a proven track record and
senior level exposure in government (including Ministerial
level), inter-governmental, and/or international organization.

Candidates
for DSG AEC must have experience in dealing with a wide spectrum
of international trade and finance, economic integration and
economic cooperation matters both in regional and international
environment.

Candidates
for DSG ASA must have vast experience in corporate planning and
management, and developmental cooperation both in regional and
international environment.
General qualifications:
Familiarity with
diplomatic practices and protocol. Other required qualities are:
competency in written and spoken English; computer literacy and
proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office tools; ability to
multi-task, work long and irregular hours, and
perform outside the usual job scope;
ability to function effectively independently and as part of a team
in a multi-cultural environment; and a willingness to travel
frequently on short notice.
Remuneration and Benefits:
Successful
candidate will be offered the post with a probation of six months
and monthly salary commensurate with his/her personal qualifications
starting from USD 7,835. There are other applicable benefits which
include housing, medical, education of
dependent children, gratuity, and annual performance bonus.
Upon completion of the probationary period, the candidate will be
confirmed as DSG for a three-year contract, inclusive of the
six-month probationary period, in the first instance.
