THE ASEAN SECRETARIAT IN JAKARTA
INVITES ASEAN NATIONALS TO APPLY FOR THE FOLLOWING VACANCY
SENIOR OFFICER (SO) –
Environment
We are seeking a professional
officer with specialization in environmental and conservation issues
to work in the Environment and Disaster Management Unit (EDMU) of
the Bureau for Resources Development in the ASEAN Secretariat. The
EDMU is responsible for coordination of regional policies and
strategies, and formulation and implementation of programs and
activities covering the whole spectrum of environment, conservation
and related issues. The SO is the Desk Officer responsible for
coordination with ASEAN Member Countries and relevant international
organizations, to formulate and implement programs and activities,
mobilize resources, service meetings, act as resource person and
provide expert advice to ASEAN Member Countries.
The applicant should possess the
following qualifications:

at least a Masters degree in
environmental management, sciences, development studies or other
relevant fields from a reputable institution of higher learning.

at least five years experience
in handling regional and global environmental and conservation
issues.

good working knowledge of
environmental and conservation issues in ASEAN, well versed in
policy and strategic issues while possessing sufficient technical
knowledge.

able to work independently and
to provide advice and expert opinion to governments and senior
officials on key emerging issues.

good knowledge of, and working
level contacts with relevant institutions working in this area.

excellent command of English,
both written and spoken;
-
good diplomatic and negotiation
skills
-
proficiency in computer and ICT
skills.

able to multi-task and willing
to perform outside the usual job scope.

able to travel frequently on
assignment and to work long hours.
-
high level of motivation and
able to motivate team members to do more.
-
able to work in a multi-cultural
and multi-disciplinary environment.
Upon the successful completion of
a 6-month probationary period, the successful candidate will be
confirmed on a 3-year contract, inclusive of the probation. The
starting salary is US$2,900 per month. Other benefits include
allowances for housing and education of dependent children,
reimbursement of medical expenses, end of contract gratuity, and
annual performance bonus.
